Random House presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Private Delhi by James Patterson, read by Sartaj Garewal. Santosh Wagh quit his job as head of Private India after harrowing events in Mumbai almost got him killed. But Jack Morgan, global head of the world's finest investigation agency, needs him back. Jack is setting up a new office in Delhi, and Santosh is the only person he can trust. Still battling his demons, Santosh accepts, and it's not long before the agency takes on a case that could make or break them. Plastic barrels containing dissolved human remains have been found in the basement of a house in an upmarket area of South Delhi. But this isn't just any house; this property belongs to the state government. With the crime scene in lockdown and information suppressed by the authorities, delving too deep could make Santosh a target to be eliminated. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sartaj Garewal. In the spirit of Khaled Hosseini, Nadia Hashimi, and Shilpi Somaya Gowda comes this powerful debut from a talented new voice - a sweeping, emotional journey of two childhood friends in Mumbai, India, whose lives converge only to change forever one fateful night. India, 1986: Mukta, a 10-year-old village girl from the lower-caste Yellama cult, has come of age and must fulfill her destiny of becoming a temple prostitute, as her mother and grandmother did before her. In an attempt to escape her fate, Mukta is sent to be a house girl for an upper-middle class family in Mumbai. There she discovers a friend in the daughter of the family, high-spirited eight-year-old Tara, who helps her recover from the wounds of her past. Tara introduces Mukta to an entirely different world - one of ice cream, reading, and a friendship that soon becomes a sisterhood. But one night in 1993, Mukta is kidnapped from Tara's family home and disappears. Shortly thereafter, Tara and her father move to America. A new life in Los Angeles awaits them, but Tara never recovers from the loss of her best friend or stops wondering if she was somehow responsible for Mukta's abduction. Eleven years later Tara, now an adult, returns to India determined to find Mukta. As her search takes her into the brutal underground world of human trafficking, Tara begins to uncover long-buried secrets in her own family that might explain what happened to Mukta - and why she came to live with Tara's family in the first place. Moving from a traditional Indian village to the bustling modern metropolis of Mumbai to Los Angeles and back again, this is a heartbreaking and beautiful portrait of an unlikely friendship - a story of love, betrayal, and ultimately redemption. 1. Home- based industries in India are small scale enterprises, labour intensive and capital saving in nature. They are a solution generated by opportunity deprived (poor or uneducated) families for their living, and sometimes are an important instrument for the growth in the city, like Mumbai, Ludhiana and various other Indian cities, including Meerut of Uttar Pradesh. In Meerut city, HBI proves that a house is not only for residential purpose only but also serves as a production place and market place. Both home and community derive vitality from the multiplicity of uses. In this book, an attempt has been made to develop a strategy on the basis of the problems identified and the existing situation. The findings of the study have revealed that the problems of the users/ inhabitants are multidimensional that cannot be isolated in terms of housing or economics alone. An interesting read for the Town Planners, Architects and Sociologists who think that planning framework and standards must result in affordable and sustainable housing for HBIs. This book s recommendations may guide the existing as well as new design parameters for the future settlements.
